Looking to identify an old romantic-adventure film featuring a compass disrupted by a magnet
I'm trying to remember the title of an old movie I saw on television (in Brazil) during the 1970s or 80s. The film itself is considerably older — most likely from the 1930s, 1940s, or early 1950s.
The plot, as best I can recall: A woman travels by small airplane to reach a reclusive writer who has withdrawn from society and is living in a distant, isolated location with a tropical atmosphere (possibly a jungle, island, or mountainous region).
During the flight, the aircraft's magnetic compass is thrown off by a magnet — I believe it came from the female passenger's cigarette case or her diary/notebook, which was sitting beside the pilot. The misreading compass causes the plane to lose its course.
After a series of adventures brought on by getting lost, the woman and the man fall in love.
The tone is romantic drama with an adventurous flavor. I have a vague impression the woman might have been a journalist who set out to find this man who had cut himself off from everyone.
My memory isn't perfect, so some details may be inaccurate, but the moment when the compass is disrupted by the magnet is the part I remember most clearly. Does this ring a bell for anyone?
