How to clean stove knobs?

I have a stove that has been in use for 9 years. I have always found cleaning the knobs difficult, with nothing helping me to remove the oily dirty residue on top of them, so the state of the knobs has deteriorated over time. Especially near the stove plate that I use for frying pan, the stove knobs feel now quite sticky, due to thickened frying oil. They also look quite dirty, since the oil attracts dirt and it's difficult to remove the dirt.

I know some stoves have removable knobs, but I don't know if my stove is one of these. Furthermore, I don't have a dishwashing machine, so the most obvious way to clean removable stove knobs, the dishwashing machine, is out of the question.

How to clean these stove knobs with items nearly every house has?

Find an electric toothbrush (and if you don't have one, you should, as an electric toothbrush is probably the best return you can ever have for an investment due to reducing dentist bills).

Find an old electric toothbrush head that you have removed from service. If you don't have such a head, go and buy a new head, and remove the current one from service.

Put a very tiny drop of dishwashing liquid on the toothbrush head. Make it wet with water.

Clean the stove knobs with this electric toothbrush and the old discarded head, using the water and dishwashing liquid.

After few minutes of working on each knob, use a paper towel and a LOT of force pressing it against the knob, to remove any remains of thickened frying oil.

It's as easy as that! For someone who knows the trick, cleaning the knobs becomes so easy you probably do it far more often than once every 9 years.

I recommend making this a routine: every time you remove an electric toothbrush head from service, go through the stove knobs with it. And don't throw it away after that, since the same trick could be useful for a lot of other cleaning tasks you might have. Everyone should have a small stash of removed electric toothbrush heads that are useful for various cleaning tasks around the house.
