"Tell" is a verb that can introduce direct and reported speech. So just like you can have "He said I'm a good student" (reported speech, and unmarked by words like "that"). You can have "He told me beware my wedding night." (reported speech). You could add extra words: "He told me to beware..." or "He told me that I should beware ..."

The pronoun (and punctuation) is the only thing that has changed from the direct speech: "He told me, 'Beware your wedding night.'"
