This scene knocks me for six.
In The McKenzie Break (1970), Why did Captain Jack Connor fly in an unarmed spotter plane? Why not fly a plane armed with guns at least, if not a fighter bomber or bomber? Any competent British Army Intelligence Captain must have prefigured that a Nazi Uboat has flak and machine guns that can gun down airplanes.
Of course, as shown in the clip, the U-boat did machine gun Captain Jack Connor's plane that had no weapons to fight back against the U-boat. And with his mp-40 submachine gun, Kapitän zur See Willi Schlüter shot Captain Jack Connor's unarmed plane too!
